The One with a Funeral and a Fall...

This week was worse for writing than last week as there was more going on. I didn’t get much time to sit down and get words in. Between packing for our road trip to Michigan for my husband’s grandma’s viewing and funeral, then my dad falling off a roof, it made for a lot of socializing and not a lot of down time.

This month's banner feature's Kalista standing on the streets of Paris which was featured in the last blog of July.

Author's Life:

On Sunday, I was able to write and work on the cover of A DANGEROUS GAME. Monday was spent doing laundry, getting the oil changed on the car, and doing some writing while sitting at the mechanic.

On Tuesday, we (Dale, Bella, & I) drove 7 hours to Michigan where my husband lived for 9 (or 10) years after his parents returned from Africa and before we were married. The viewing was Tuesday night, and while we were there my father fell off a roof here at home.

He was working for the historical society on the steeple of the church in his town when it started to rain. He quickly went to get off the tin roof, but because it was fastened with nails not screws, he had nothing for his shoes to grip with the water, and slid, missing the ladder. He fell a good 3.5 stories to the ground mostly on his left, but also hit his face.

Thankfully, he lived through the experience. He’s lucky to be alive! In his words, “I don’t feel it right now, but I will later.” He’s in a lot of pain, but doing better now that they’ve gotten it under control. He broke his nose, his left shoulder, and his left femur in two places. He’s doing better but has 10-14 days of rehab before he gets out of the hospital.

Back in Michigan, I was worried about Dad but grateful for the distraction of spending time with Dale’s family from his siblings and parents, to aunt, uncle, cousins, and Iowa family. A good time was had by all at the celebration of June Crake who was 90 years old.

However, between driving, events, and being so tired I crashed when we got back to the hotel, then going to see my father as soon as we got back, plus dealing with the social burnout and not being able to find words yesterday. I didn’t get as much writing done the last half of the week, though I did get in a few thousand words last night.

The work Life:

Writing:

A DANGEROUS GAME (ADG) was a back burner project this week with everything going on. It started this week 42,190 words, and ended with 55,230 words… *blinks at that number* Well, that's much more than I thought.

Total word count for the week: 13,040

Editing:

I talked to Maxine on Saturday night, and they’ve been dealing with a lot of house stuff. She hasn’t gotten through the first chunk, but she will. She’ll just be on the same stage as the beta readers…

I’m also getting back into editing/reading over COOKIES & RAGE with Matt, which we'll get back into tonight, even though I'm still socially exhausted from this week.

Publishing:

Beta Reading for DEADLY SIRENS started yesterday, and Matt wasn’t the first one done this time! I’m already gotten some awesome feedback and I’m looking forward to the rest of the surveys as my 8 beta’s work through this chunk and the rest of them.

Art Feature:

I didn’t really get to make more art this week. After getting home Thursday then going to the hospital to see dad, so here’s a piece I haven’t shown on the blogs yet. This is one that I made a couple months ago of the Three Generations: (L to R) Sheeva (Daughter), Ronnie (Grandma), and Macha (Mom). This was just a G9 revamp for Ronnie and Macha with Sheeva as an addition.
