The One with the Birthday...
Wednesday was my birthday, plus I’ve had a lot of things going on this week,
but I did get to enjoy my birthday… for the most part.
This month's banner feature's Odin and Freya in a typical "Mall Santa" type setting.
(read about it at the end of this blog)
Author's Life:
Usually, my birthday week is either a snowstorm or a shitstorm. This week was warmer than normal for New York, especially in December. It got to near 50°F (10°C) on Thursday and was a high of 48°F (8.88°C) on my birthday! It felt like a prank! I was grateful for the break from the cold and snow though, because I had a coffee date with a friend on Tuesday to pic up my Husband’s quilt, and Thursday I had the oil-change for the car, a follow-up with my regular doctor after my ER visit (Everything is fine. We feel it was IBS), and my yearly hair appointment in the evening. Most times I cut my own hair, but this time it needed more of a trim than I could do myself.
The fun part about this week was I got to take my laptop with me both Tuesday and Thursday since I had time to kill. I got to write for an hour on Tuesday before heading home and Thursday I wrote at the mechanic, the doctor’s office, and at a café in between doctors and my hair appointment. I need to take my laptop with me more often. It helped me stay calm and not get anxious while waiting.
My birthday was good. I got to start Episode 3 of our Star Wars Tabletop campaign, then wrote for a little before taking a nap, and getting some not-so-great news about Amazon… which will be discussed down in publishing. After posting a couple things about it on my socials, I then went live with my TikTok writing bestie, Emma, and we had a grand old time. I won’t go over the other disappointment here, but some of you know about that already, thank you for helping me through that.
This coming week is Christmas and then Vacation! The next newsletter will be posted while I’m out and about. Anyhow, to the business!
The work Life:
Writing:
Dani Rae and the Fish went from 45,860 words to 74,500 as of last night. I’ve had a few hard days where writing was slow, due to socializing with friends mostly. I’m NEARLY done with the book and with the big ridiculous goal!
Total word count for the week: 28,640 words
Update on Writing Ridiculous Goal:
I’m at 990,780 words of my 1 Million word goal, which leaves less than 10k words (9,220 to be exact)! I’m so close I can taste it, and I hope to be done by Tuesday so I can focus on packing and getting things ready for Vacation!
Editing:
I’ve not gotten to do any editing this week because I’ve been trying to complete my word goal and we’re also not going to be able to do any the week after next cause I’ll be on vacation, so Fated Angel is on pause until after Dale and I get home.
Publishing News:
The Bad News:
This week Amazon delivered some unfortunate news for Authors. In their infinite tech wisdom *heavy sarcasm* Amazon have decided to make their own AI that will read all eBooks on the platform so readers can ask it questions about the book, and it can answer accurately. This can range from anything to the plot, the characters, how it will end, and so forth. I think I summarized it well when talking to my college best friend and fellow writer Anthony J. Sims. “It’s like an 8th grader designed an AI so he doesn’t have to read the required book, and he can just ask it questions.” It’s like ChatGPT for books, which will be implemented on January 1st and is NOT optional.
I along with many other authors are not going to let Amazon Farm our books for their AI, so we are removing our eBooks from Kindle. My books will still be available in print form from Amazon, because they are the cheapest for print options, but as of January 1st or technically December 31st. My eBooks will no longer be on Kindle.
You will still be able to purchase them here on the website, Apple Books, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, Ko-fi, and Kobo Plus. The last of which I recommend as an alternative to Kindle Unlimited as it’s cheaper and some of their eReaders can connect directly to your cloud or Dropbox to access books not on their platform.
(If anyone reading this is thinking about what to get me for Christmas and can afford it, I’d love one of their eReaders… this one specifically cause I can also use it for red pen editing)
The Good News:
You can still get the eBooks here on my website and they're currently on Sale! Also, I'm still looking for beta readers for Cookies & Rage AND ARC readers for Deadly Sirens, find out more about each book by tapping the buttons below the covers!
Art Feature:
This week’s art isn’t Christmas or Yule themed again, because I’ve not done a lot of art this week… but here’s another piece from Dani Rae and the Fish. This is Dani Rae and the love interest/complication of the book, Doctor Benjamin Riley. That’s all I’ll say about him for now.
