Lots of ups and downs this week, but a proud moment on Monday that dawned on me out of the blue, and I'm utterly grateful for those who love my art enough to commission pieces so I could have this moment.

Author's Life:

     The proud moment came while I was driving to the mechanic on Monday to get the right rear hub replaced. Because of commission pieces, I was able to pay for the bill in full, and you’ve no idea how nice it feels to do that.

     Why? I always say that I was gifted in all the ways that make me a “Starving Artist.” I have an eye for art, a talent to create, and writing just comes naturally to me, plus I’m not a bad singer either (I was even in the Collegiate Choir at college), but all of these creative pursuits don’t often become a career unless you “Get Lucky” or know the right people. I don’t have the connections, and I’m not lucky enough to earn a large salary for this full time job, but it's enough to cover some major bills.

     Getting to pay a bill between $200-$400 with money I made from my art and my books is a HUGE confidence boost. Now, I just need to do it every month from now on as we will be paying $400 a month for insurance. This is on my shoulders or I feel it is because there is no room in the budget for it, and no wiggle room to skrimp and save it due largerly to the rising cost of EVERYTHING (thank you, mostly to Trump).

      Though it's good news for those of you who follow me for my art, because commissions are open, and I’ll be opening up a page here on the website for both art AND writing commissions.

    On another proud note, my art will also be paying for the next BIGGER mechanic bill, the muffler replacement. It makes me even more confident and grateful to have everyone supportive and enjoying the art I make for the subscription site.

Now, if I could get more book sales… 🤔     

The Books:

Writing:

       I’ve not done much in The Author and the CEO. It was at 104,219 and is now at 107,695 which is only a gain of 3,476 words. I also wrote another little short story for the aforementioned paid subscriber page, which was 3,408, and based off a picture that was requested by my top tier subscriber. Then I added 2,340 into Autumn’s Equinox.

     Total word count this week: 9,224

June Word Count Goal: 65,000 current progress 33.35% 👀 I really need to write more 

    I edited chapters 6-10 of An Angel Enraged, and the beta’s got those chapters yesterday. 4 of the 7 beta readers finished the first chunk already and I know a 5th has started it. They’ve all loved it so far, a few edits given, and art ideas too. Now that chunk 2 has been uploaded I know that one has started as of this yesterday afternoon, and 3 may finish by tonight.

      “Already halfway there,” I cut him off. He sputtered, and the left side of my mouth rose into a smirk. I loved throwing him off like that.

Art Feature:

    I’ve worked on a lot of art this week, but this one sticks out. If you’ve known me since before 2020, you might know why. The dog in this picture is a Samoyed, the same breed as our (my husband and my) last dog, Sadie who passed in March of 2020 due to a birth defect at the young age of 5.

     When I wrote Sabrina, the Samoyed service dog, into the book Autumn’s Equinox, it didn’t occur to me that I’d have to make art of her. It took me a few hours to get her to look exactly right, but it was well worth it, and yes, I did cry when I saw her rendered. I spent several hours after the picture finished to make her fur look more like fur and less like little strands of straw (or something similar). I used some smoothing features, and hair paint brushes in Procreate to make Sabrina look fluffy and adorable.

    Why does Autumn have a service dog? She has high anxiety after a relationship gone bad, plus low blood sugar, which Sabrina is trained to sense and signal her for. This is one of those moments, where Sabrina is doing her job, and setting her head comfortingly on Autumn’s arm.

     Also, leaning over her is Nemain/Halima, one of Ronnie's daughters, a lawyer, and Irish Fate. She is also a big part of the book and rescues Autumn from her ex who won't leave her alone.
