Still sick...

It wasn’t a bug, and I managed to get some stuff done, but it’s been an uphill battle to do even the smallest things, and don’t get me started on any kind of social interaction. 😣

The October Header described below the picture

New header has a damask background with the new logo in the middle and fiery wings to either side.

Author's Life:

The sickness didn’t get better this week. Matter of fact, it got worse. I’ve been having trouble sleeping due to aches and pains amplified by fever spikes. Nausea and lack of appetite have gotten bad too, so I finally broke down and called the doctor Thursday morning. They thankfully had a late morning Friday appointment, but still too early as I haven’t been getting to sleep until 6 am most days. Yesterday was no different.

I tried to get to sleep earlier, cause I was tired. So, I gathered the trash, pulled out the grocery bags, and set aside my outfit in preparing for “early” morning, then headed to bed. My body refused to let me get comfy. So, Two hours after going upstairs, I returned to the recliner only to hear a familiar noise in the kitchen. A mouse had fallen into the empty trash can and couldn’t get out.

I could only see two options: 1) try to get it into a smaller container and risk it escaping. 2) take the whole trash can out to the car and go deposit the field mouse back in a field. So, option 2 it was. At 4 am, I put the trash can in the car, drove a mile to the outskirts of town, and let him go in a field just outside of city limits. It took all of 5 minutes to get there and back. That was my excitement for the week.

I only got about 2 hours sleep, then the doctors appointment confirming that not only did I have the infection I thought, but also sinusitis/upper respiratory too. So, I have antibiotics that may intensify my IBS symptoms for the next five days. What's worse? This week isn't a slow week AT ALL. I have several medical appointments and the car goes back to the mechanic to check the shudder when braking, which is most likely the rotors, and means more money, more marketing, and more energy drained.

In more happy news: I decided to get rid of the “Tower of Doom” totes I have had sitting in my living room with my stock books in them since Book Bash in April, and upgraded to a bookcase where all 47 books I still have can be displayed more attractively. The bookcase fits perfectly in the space where the Tower of Doom was, and it’s shorter! What do you think?

The Old Set Up...

The New Set Up!

Bad news/observation: When did registration for cars in NY get so expensive? I paid $152 to renew the registration for the Santa Fe, and I’m not even getting new plates. It was just a renewal! I feel like that’s doubled since I registered her in 2024. Ugh! Just another big bill I wasn’t expecting. 😣

A final good news, at least for those who play video games: a study of 471k people showed that playing video games can lessen the risk of dementia! Click here to read about it... after you finish the newsletter, ok?

August Sales/funds Goal:

September Goal: $1233

Progress: 85% ($1,055) Still in need of $178 before the 31st! (11 days)

Goal is met by art commissions (& sales on Ko-fi), ebook sales from my website, and paperback stock sales: Information below.

📚 Buying books (I have paperbacks in stock still from the convention in April): ebooks too from my website or anything (books or digital pictures) from my Ko-fi shop is the cheapest for you and best buy-to-bank for me as all other places take MONTHS to pay authors.

☕  Commissioning me via Ko-fi for Digital Art! I currently have sale listings for 16x9 character portraits (which can be used for Book Covers: 6 slots available) for only $50, and Chibi profile Pics for $20 (4 slots available).

🖼️ Or donating on Ko-fi (though, I'd rather you just buy art or something in the shop🥺I feel like a burden and indebted if people just donate.)

NotePre orders do not count toward the goal for the month… due to most of that money going to the book, the goodies, and the shipping.

The Books:

Writing:

I wrote a hundred more words into the short story: “The Unquenchable Desire” while editing it (and also posted it onto DeviantArt on Tuesday)… I also edited some into Dangerous Game, and we have the new total for Death, Desires, and Inner Demons too (104,555), plus some edits of Cruel Deceit (Kalista book 9), and more words into a Star Wars Fan Fiction story that I posted to DA back in 2018/2019.

Total word count for this week: 946

Editing

Death, Desires, & Inner Demons has all the edits, is reformatted (with page numbers), and the cover is also redone, which means I have another proof coming this week to check it… and possibly hand it to dad, idk yet. I BARELY started the red pen edits of A Dangerous Game (Kalista book 8). Haven’t gotten to chapter 1 yet, BUT I have started a read through of A Cruel Deceit (book 9) in hopes of writing A Conman Falls (book 10) in October.

Dad finished The Fated Angel on Wednesday Night, and had 16 edits, of those edits 8 of them had already been caught by Deanna, who finished the whole book in a matter of 48-ish hours. THANK YOU TO BOTH OF THEM!

Beta Reading Update!

Beta Reading of THE FATED ANGEL started last week. 4 people have made it through chunk 1, and they’re now reading chunk 2, while the last 2 work on chunk 1 (Matt has finished chunk 2, unsuprisingly).

Favorite quotes so far:

  • This one is a bit spoilery for the Kalista Chronicles: Kalista Drascul was a pitch-black ray of sunshine and a breath of fresh air when it came to the directors.
  • “You know that falling for someone doesn’t have to be literal, right?”

Art Feature

If you know me, you know that I am ANTI-AI have been since before AI was the craze it is now, but I’ve been seeing more and more of it, and now my art is being “suspected” AI because AI copies the 3d animated style a lot. I made THIS image of my characters protesting an AI Datacenter, and am using it as my banner on my social media accounts that have one.

characters from left to right: Hope Amaani, Astrid Danika Drascul, Miseria Mortem, Jethro Cryptic (in the back), Leighla Angelic, Kalista (in the front with the megaphone), Beryx, Forseti (in the back), Me (in the aviators), and Odin (looking Menacing).

I have gotten some flack for it from PRO-AI people and have since blocked them and deleted their comments, because they argued with one of my friends and contradicted themselves during said argument. So, if you’re Pro-AI, don’t talk about it to me, because you will suffer the Wrath of the Goth Disney Queen, and you may just get blocked or the INFJ door slam. Especially this week as I am sick, hormones have “flipped my Bitch Switch”, and it will quickly become 'a hill someone will die on'. (hint: it won’t be me)

Feel free to leave me a comment at the bottom of the page about what you thought or if you had a question. I'll answer them when I can.

Being sick is absolutely no fun, and yea… car registration fees are steep…. But I’m proud of you for getting through this week, and for pushing forward still. You’re doing amazing! Rest, hydrate, and just keep doing your best! You’ve got this!
